Conference Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
Review the pathophysiology of prevalent chronic pain conditions.
Explain psychosocial issues faced by patients with chronic cancer and noncancer pain and their implications for the improvement of palliative care and patient quality of life.
Evaluate current and emerging multidisciplinary treatment strategies for patients with chronic pain.
Identify key medical, legal, and regulatory issues that may influence the management of patients with chronic pain.
 
Target Audience
This conference is designed for pain specialists and primary care physicians. There are no prerequisites.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the Institute of Applied Science & Medicine. This interdisciplinary approach allows for pain specialists and primary care physicians to interact more closely than many professional situations normally permit. The conference provides an opportunity for these two groups to openly discuss the day-to-day challenges they experience and consider the most appropriate ways to work together to provide the best care possible for their respective patients.
