The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the Institute of Applied Science and Medicine invite the submission of abstracts for poster presentation at the third annual American Conference on Pain Medicine (ACPM) on April 4-5, 2008, at the Marriott Marquis Times Square in New York City.
 
Call for Abstracts
Abstract submission deadline: 
March 10, 2008, 5:00 pm EDT

Abstracts must be submitted online through the ACPM abstract submission Web site. You may begin the submission process at the bottom of this page.
 
Abstract Preparation
1. Abstracts/posters previously presented or published between January 2007 and April 2008 are acceptable for submission, but this must be disclosed during the online submission process (and, subsequently, noted on the poster, if accepted).
 

However, work previously published in manuscript form is NOT accepted.

2. There is a limit of 2 abstract submissions per presenting author.
3. Abstracts must not exceed 2000 characters, including spaces (approximately 300 words). The submission portal will not accept abstracts exceeding 2000 characters.
4. Images and/or tables are NOT allowed.
5. Abstract title should be brief, reflecting the nature of the investigation (60 characters maximum, including spaces). Avoid abbreviations if possible.
6. Abstracts must be structured using the following headings:
  Background
Objectives
Methods
Results
Conclusions
7. Use generic drug names, unless the brand name is essential to distinguish among commercially available products.
8. Abbreviations must be defined on first use in the body text.
9. When preparing your abstract, bear in mind that it will be read by experts in your field and also by colleagues who may not be familiar with your topic.
 
Abstract Submission
1. Abstracts must be submitted online by the presenting author.
2. If your abstract is accepted, the presenting author must attend the conference and be available for questions during the poster session; submission of an abstract constitutes a commitment to produce a poster version and attend the ACPM on acceptance.
3. Commercial or institutional support or author relationships with commercial entities must be disclosed during the submission process.
4. Previous presentation information must be disclosed during the submission process.
5. The deadline for abstract submission is March 10, 2008, 5:00 pm EDT. You will NOT be able to edit your abstract after submission.
6 After submitting your abstract, you will automatically receive a confirmation message via e-mail.

Authors must select a topic from the following under which they wish their abstract to be reviewed:

Pain Neurobiology and Physiology
Assessment and Diagnosis
  Acute and chronic pain
Treatment Modalities
  Medical
Interventional
Physical medicine and rehabilitation
Psychosocial
Ethical, Legal, Financial, and Education
 
Abstract Acceptance and Notification
1. Abstracts will be reviewed by members of the ACPM Scientific Review Committee.
2. Abstracts will be evaluated for scientific credibility and fair balance.
3. Authors will be notified of acceptance via e-mail by March 17, 2008.
4. Guidelines for poster presentation are available when clicking the link above.
5. Abstracts accepted for presentation will be:
 
Printed in the ACPM binder that will be distributed at the conference to all registered attendees.
Available on the ACPM meeting Web site (www.iasmconference.org) subsequent to the meeting.
